Mother Tongue Multilingual Mic

Come and enjoy poetry in many languages! Share a poem in your mother tongue, heritage language or learned language and enjoy listening to the poetry of a variety of languages and cultures.

This event will be hosted by Andrew Geoffrey Kwabena Moss, and will feature multilingual poet and songstress Karina Palomita, plus the multilingual poetry open mic.

This is an opportunity to share your own writing in a language other than English (or a mix of languages, which can include English), or a piece by a favourite poet from your language or culture. If you would like to read at the open mic, email poeticcitycbr@gmail.com with ‘Mother Tongue Mic Sign Up’ in the subject heading.

If you want to to try writing multilingual poetry beforehand, with some ideas, guidance and support, the Multilingual Poetry Workshop with Andrew Geoffrey Kwabena Moss on Saturday 24 July.

Tickets: $10 Full price/ $5 Concession/ $0 Access (where any cost would be a barrier to attending)

Karina Palomita is a poet and musician of Chilean and European heritage who writes and sings in English and Spanish, and sometimes Indonesian. She has performed with Mother Tongue since its inception and was part of the MT multilingual poetry project 'Homespun'. Strongly influenced by the traditional styles of Chile, Karina has been playing music for most of her life, and brings soul and eloquence to the beauty of song.
